Los Banos LibraryCentennial Imagine 1910, just three years after the city was incorporated: the dirt roads, the horses and buggies, the outhouses, lots of open space, and a few houses and businesses clustered near what is now downtown. There are no telephones and no radios.
But there is a library. Yes, a hundred years ago the Los Banos branch of the Merced County Library opened its doors in a building in downtown Los Banos.
Los Banos residents a hundred years ago realized how important a library was to their community. Many people today feel just as strongly about a library’s importance, especially the many Friends of the Los Banos Library. You're Invited! Come along, join in and Celebrate with us! Our first centennial event will be on May 9, in connection with the Mother’s Day in the Park Fair in Pacheco Park. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Sunday, the Friends will sponsor a centennial open house in the library. We're looking forward to seeing you there. |
